Should seniors still use protection during sex?

It is definitely best to wear a condom at all times. Even though the woman might be too old to conceive, you have to think of sexually transmitted diseases, and prevent yourself from contracting any kind of S.T.D. If you are wondering whether there are any areas of the sexual act that you should avoid, it is up to you but always err on the side of safety, meaning that you might even contract something WHILE wearing a condom if you are not using the condom properly or if there is leakage. There should be no reason why a couple in their sixties cannot indulge in the kind of sex they had in their thirties; it is all a matter of comfort, health and perspective.

Increased or decreased rate of sexual activity

Did you know that adults have sex 57 times a year or about once a week? According to Sex Surveys, adults under the age of 40 have sex 78 times a year, and over 70 indulge in it 8 times a year. Married seniors, 67 times, and divorced, never married people about 55 times. There are also those situations where women want a particular type of sex and the man cannot deliver. According to another study, there’s a correlation between coffee drinking and a higher or lower rate of sexual activity.

Love is more about intimacy

It is unfortunate that people view seniors or grandma and grandpa as too old to have sex, or too old to need it or still indulge in sexual activity. For men who are getting older, there is nothing that a young person can do in bed that an older person cannot. One has to be careful of course of stiff joints and a sore back, and take it easy. If you are overweight this is more difficult or uncomfortable. Don’t get wild in bed, and if you have a heart condition don’t stress yourself and try something acrobatic. Love is more about intimacy and togetherness; it is about trust in your partner, compassion for the other person’s needs. Sometimes a cuddle and a kiss is enough. If it is not, you may want to discuss ways both you and your partner can be sexually satisfied.

Aspiring to become a writer

If you really do have aspirations to become a writer, the first thing you have to remember is that writing is a process. You don’t write an exam and voila you are a person of words. Writing is a sensibility. You are curious, you want to express yourself, you have a creative bent, you love words and the arrangement of sentences and paragraphs. You love the magic it creates, and you love being part of that magic. Writing for me started at age twelve, as many of you know, and for students out there who have a real interest in it, why are you waiting until you grow up? Writing doesn’t happen to those who do not have a natural curiosity and have no wish to explore. Writing happens to those who are open to the experience and to those who allow themselves to be transported to other worlds.

What it takes

A true writer has the madness inside. And you can have it too if you want it and want to give yourself up to the experience and believe you can do it. Writing, for heaven’s sake is not about not starting a sentence with but and all those things teachers tell you are wrong. It is about that and much more. If you have the magic and the desire, the style will follow and the correct English will automatically become part of your writing process. The idea is to be inspired to write and to always call on that inspiration to go on an adventure. Remember, as a writer of fiction you are God and the director all in one. You can be called upon at any time of the day or night to explore a certain idea or a story; in any event you will be called upon for an arrangement of words.

Dream your way to success

As part of your arsenal, reading novels and books is very important. It not only provides knowledge, over time you develop your own style as you become more familiar with the sound of words on the ear. There is music in writing. Always test the sound of your words by reading aloud. The best writers are the ones who are curious and read all the time and write what they know about and have a lot of information to flesh out a good story.

To the students at Christel School who are reading Fiction Tips to prepare for our meeting in two weeks; it will be interesting to see if in addition to reading what you were asked to if you had also scoured the site for similar articles on writing. Here is an assignment: write a short story on anything of 500 words. Use the link below and include your email address when you reply.

Signs that your relationship might be in trouble

It is not a pleasant thing to write articles about infidelity and what to do about it, but if you can save someone from making a mistake, or help someone move on, it is well worth it. If you are currently in a relationship and your partner is acting strange, it may be that he is feeling guilty about his actions. If the following occurs, you have grounds to be concerned.

Signs that your relationship is in trouble

·                    Your guy comes home late from work every night, without explaining why he is late. Sometimes he only arrives home at midnight.
·                    He calls from work to say he is working on reports and will meet with some friends afterwards without giving you a reasonable explanation.
·                    He does not seem very interested in what you are doing and does not miss your attention.
·                    He’s bought mouthwash – something he has never done before – and goes out by himself.
·                    He says he has work to do at the office and may be home as late as midnight. When you call his office he is not there.
·                    He does not seem interested in having sex with you anymore and spends more time on his and with his buddies.
·                    He now wants to wash his own shirts and underwear.
·                    He comes home with pornography.
·                    He downloads porn at work and has a stash of pornography you discovered in a special folder on the internet.
·                    You feel that he has cooled towards you.
·                    He claims he has erectile dysfunction, but does not want to do anything about it.
·                    He has stopped buying you gifts.
·                    He no longer asks for your opinion.

Only you know your partner. Is he acting unusual? It is better at this point to ask him if you are right about your suspicions. Surely, no one wants to stay on with someone who has lost interest, and it is better to know the truth. If he has not lost interest in the relationship, it will do both of you good to speak to an expert to deal with what seems to be a troubled way to live. Usually friends of the couple can tell at a glance if something is wrong; ask your best friend what she thinks – then trust your instinct to do what you have to do.
